Your Children

Contributed by Cancer on Saturday, 25th January 2003 @ 08:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

didn't have much to live for
he didn't have much hope
no one there to help him
he had no way to cope
pills and booze helped for awhile
but the apathy didn't last
no future to look forward to
no comfort in the past

steel pressed to the roof of his mouth
it could end all of his pain
a little pressure from his finger
no more suffering in vain

daddy doesn't give a *****
mommy says "you must trust god"
his heart growing cold to the world
yet, no one ever saw
the pain he felt, the hate that filled
his mind as it decayed
he tried so hard to "tough it out"
but in the end, he couldn't stay

steel pressed to the roof of his mouth
it could end all of his pain
a little pressure from his finger
no more suffering in vain

a couple drinks for courage
and a handful of pills for luck
a short note "to whom it may concern,
i'm dead, who gives a *****?"
the barrel in his mouth
his eyes shut, spilling tears
not scared that he will go to hell
cuz he's been living it for years

gun lying on the floor beside him
his head splattered on the wall
he wasn't killed by the bullet
but the apathy of all

with tears in their eyes, they wonder why
it all happened this way
and as each week passes, those sorry asses
will let his memory fade
they didn't listen when he cried out for help
they ignored every shout
attention only reached
through heartless abuse
and his brilliant flame burned out

gun lying on the floor beside him
his head splattered on the wall
he wasn't killed by the bullet
but the apathy of all

a nice write, well written
Now my 2 cents worth, I really don"t agree with your little message at the beginning. Those were harsh words and laying blame on the parents is not a good thing.Suicide is a very sad thing indeed. The pain of the individual to come to the point of no return, but also the pain he/she leaves behind.

I understand your point of view. But, i wasn't speaking about/to all parents. Just the ones who are "too busy" to be bothered with the fact that they have a child. Too busy drinking themselves to death, chatting on their little phones about the latest gossip, or just too busy wallowing in their own "oh, how did my life come to this" self-pity to even notice that they are responsible for another human life. I don't place much value in human life, but, a child who didn't ask to be brought into this ***** hole of a planet should at least have the benefit of parents who actually acknowledge their existence. Think about it. The kids who supposedly killed themselves over Ozzy's music. Do you really believe that they were just happy-go-lucky, full-of-life teens before Ozzy's songs entered their life? And then, all of a sudden, life isn't worth living. Now, that's not to say that it was the parents fault, but it is a possibility. I've seen several kids driven to drugs and alcohol and other delightful distractions due to the fact that their parents couldn't give two ***** about them. It's a sad affair.

Me again...I just LOVE your poetry...You sound like a really angry person with lots of things to deal with but at least you have chosen to express yourself. Poetry is a form of therapy for me...it helps me be honest with myself. I look forward to reading more of your work! Love ya.

This poem was so well written and sad I just loved it. I love how u said he wasn't killed by the bullet, but the apathy of it all. Amazing, bold poem.

This was soooooo sad,I as a mother of two boys often kick myself for not having more time with my children,I make the time though! My children are my life! I agree with those who dont feel this way should really stop & think on why did you have them in the first place! Suicide is not a way out of this though! This was a really touching peice!
