Interstice (A Perspective)

“At-ten-u-a-tion,” I’d repeat,
Nodding slowly as if
Indicating agreement.
But, I – oh! how I
Would argue (in silence,
Perhaps – but argue, yes).
And you
– mentally backtracking
As you read the synonyms aloud
From the thesaurus -
Might then utter something
Profoundly unbelievable and
Unbelievably profound, like -
“That’s it!”
I’d smile
– of course, I’d smile -
And would keep right on nodding,
With tears forming in my eyes.
Then… I’d wait,
As patiently as you did
In that gap between
The profoundly unbelievable
Thing that I said
And the unbelievably profound
Awareness that you knew
Would come later.
And some number of days
(weeks, months, years)
Later, when you happened upon
That word once more
You’d whisper (not to me then,
But to yourself mostly),
“Attenuation…
What was I thinking?”
And I – oh! how I
Will grin then, and weep -
For never once
Having thought that it made
Any sort of sense at all,
Even when I knew exactly
What you were thinking.
~
“Attenuation,” then,
Would make sense,
Of course.

Now that was totally weird, Snemmers. Noooo...not the poem. Never. Never one of your poems!!!! I was getting ready to sign out of here and your poem just happen to grab my attention and then, yeah, you further grab my attention with attenuation......thinking, and believe me that thinking part hurts my brain tonight ;-) what the heck does that mean? Ah, a play on words! Awesome. :-)
*looks up definition*
Snemmers teaches Timber a new word. :-)
So, yeah, reads.....reads....
This was so thoroughly enjoyable...and yes, I agree with holderofthestone! You most definitely have an amazing gift! A talent so brilliant I want to read this again and again.
You have a wonderful way with words and not too big for my cranium to handle. :-)
I am so glad to have seen this and read this before I hit the hay!
Really....thank you for sharing.
*means that when he says it because if you had not shared this...then could not have enjoyed it*
Take care,
Tim
:-)

Your writes always impress the hell outta me Snembler! You just have such a way about your work that sets you a cut above. I mean that, truly. You tell the reader a story, and give us the tiniest little ol' peek into your wonderful inner workings, and intrigue (me, as a reader) to want to read your poetry time and time again. Nicely done, I like the way you wrote this.
