I looked in the mirror one night

Contributed by SeptChill on Monday, 19th December 2005 @ 02:54:50 PM in AEST
Topic: PoemsonBeauty

I can see my reflection.
It stares back
As if it is someone other than me
I see a siren
With wide eyes
And a bold nose
With lips shaped like a bow
Perhaps the words could be Eros’ arrows
Just maybe
And that face
So ovular, and pale
And my hair hangs around it
Dark and straight
Shimmers as a models might
I flip it and it falls down my back
I look in the mirror
A black camisole
Stretches around my breasts
And over my stomach which while flat with muscle
Is rounded with baby’s softness near the navel
And love on the side
I stand sideways and stare at myself
My shape melts away and I am someone
Smaller, lovelier.
I face the mirror
Curvy
Almost heavy
And almost strong
There’s a small sliver of pastel skin
Where the black top parts from the black bottoms
Teasing
I see
I relax then
Not posing
How is it
With no make up
No show
In these black cotton pajamas
I am finally beautiful
And no one is there to see it but me?
