Bertie

Contributed by OzChick on Friday, 16th December 2005 @ 07:58:20 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

Once I knew a little girl, the daughter of a friend.
This child's life, God decided, to put to an end.
Little Bertie, four years old,
died in June on a morning cold.

Little Bertie, young and sweet, running wild on tiny feet.
Full of laughter, full of joy, chasing after a favourite toy.
Energetic, full of life, always getting into strife.

Feeling sleepy, go to bed. Woozy tummy, aching head.
Mum gets worried, somethings wrong.
Bertina's sleeping far too long.

Call the doctor.....Hospital!
Can't you cure this child so fragile?
Meningococcal Meningitis. Hard to diagnose.
Virus fatal, feeling helpless.
Too easy a life goes!

She wrapped her arms around my neck.
Angelic charms I can't forget.
Her cheeky smile, her eyes aglow.
She lived a while, then had to go.

In God's garden she now lives.
And with my faith I can forgive,
the tragic way she had to die.
I trust the Lord had reasons why.

Darn Jenny, this made me all teary eyed....I always worry so about my children and well....I guess I don't need to explain it to you. Such a sad, sad write. Makes me want to go kiss my beautiful children. Peace to you, Laura

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
