Lord Marmaduke soon takes himself away.
This Christmastide with Laurence he will sail.
What he’s determined late is I should play
his role in James’s cabal that dare not fail.
And so, Stephanus, night’s loss seems but pale
when laid aside what wondrous gain is mine.
Perchance Lord Marmaduke will be in gale,
storm being great on sea, his death-ward sign.
Forever, me thinks, I at James’ good feasts then dine.
This time next week our scheme will be in place,
and fate of old land England sways with Throme.
Prince James with no dissenting views will race
to take the throne when Laurence leaves his home.
And I in place of Marmaduke not roam
but stay to make all certain game succeeds.
Hear ye, for I have neither stupid dome
nor harbor clean and righteous soul that bleeds.
And know that ye are least rich knight to try our deeds.
