Lying quietly on our backs in the cool grass, I traced the stars for her. As my finger ran its course through the night sky, one by one her stars began to fall. Little by little her smile grew wider. As the last star fell, I turned my head to her, but she was already gone. Alone in the moon’s pallor, I heard laughter from the woods, daring me to follow. Spotting a flash of the moonlight in her hair, I gave chase. Her laughter moved so fast, coming from what seemed all directions. I could never have kept up, but her laughter pulled me on. I stopped in a grassy clearing to catch my breath. With my hands resting on my knees, I stared up at her starless canvas as it waited to be painted. Her laughter returned, this time so close behind me. Startled, I turned towards it and was greeted by a flow of tears. Short of breath again, I reached to wipe them, but never touched her face. Again, she ran, but this time her trail was clearly evident. This time she wanted to be found.

This touched me...for reasons I can't really explain but can't deny.
I read it to a special lady...one who acts much like the one written about
It made her smile when she looked at me |
