Grew up on a small farm
with memories often sweet.
Tire swing in the front yard,
hanging from a strong branch
on an old maple tree.
I used to hug that big ole' tree...
Always a true and trusted friend to me.
Lilacs of different hues,
their sweets scents did abound.
Spireas with tiny white bouquets
gracefully drooping to the ground.
The old red barn sits
out my upstairs window...
A pond down the field road...
surrounded on one side by
Mulberry trees.
All this around me
I treasured and loved.
Fine memories of working hard...
Driving tractor
Bucking bales
Gigging frogs
Fishing until sunset came.
Washing my hair in the metal tub outside
where we collected rain.
Broad shouldered tomboy, I was.
Strong minded girl.
My mother would say...
"you work better than a man"
Snapping beans
Shucking corn
Using the scythe
Out in the hot sun all day
skin browned...body lythe.

the creek and all those slippery frogs .. the firefly catching at night ..
helping feed the animals and collect the eggs .. beautiful piece
