Our Century of Love

what is love?
in my world
it's magic.
that riveting dance of gypsies
balogni sandwhiches
and lemonade.
a kiss of the soul
a forever going dream
please don't wake me
i think i've touched bliss.
when you look at them
it's touching rainbows
enveloping yourself in a pyramid of depth
watching them tremble
from a mere touch
or even catching them
when you spot shooting stars.
but, what is love really?
in our days
love is giving your body to others.
lying to manifest a diseased heart
stealing trust
to watch it float down gutters
it is anger
lust
and deceit.
i was born in the wrong generation
my soul is seasoned
and yet, new to this era.
where are the others who still have dreams?
lick ice cream from their lips
and hold onto faith?
where are the ones
who still believe?
who cherish the magic
and bathe in it?
i'm afraid we've lost that tradition
that tantalizing spell.
we've become mass destruction
intent on destroying
destroying, it seems,
ourselves.

...twice read...it was easily read...it had a natural kind of flow...the topic, subject, is a Medusa...it certainly stimulates thought...
...the advertising media, which is the financial lifeblood of communications, continually programs our heart, soul, spirit and body to be dissatisfied...it molds our thoughts, our thinking processes with its doctrine of discontent...never has there been a generation so thoroughly trained to never be at rest with themselves, much less with anyone else...
...this soap is better...you need this convenience...their car is best...your clothes aren't fashionalble...you've got to have this game, that stereo, those earrings, this gum, his kind of coat, her kind of lipstick...whatever you are today, the advertising media tells you it isn't enough...you need more...you deserve more...
...it's killing us...it's killing Love, the foundational unconditional Love of our inner "Self," and thus our ability to unconditionally Love others...
...very stimulating poem...it brings you to the very edge of the cliff and there are so many vectors to choose from...its hard to know which way to jump...
...this might be a good forum topic...

A incisive observation of what's been the past and
what we have today. I agree with all that you've to say,
simply because it's the truth... that we do belong to
a cookie cutter conformist society. It's also hell bent
on telling us what's wrong with us... and what the
cure is, and how much it will cost us. God, what a
thought provoking question.. what is love today?
Keep up the excellent and informed writing.
