Endless Possibility

Solitude or sadness wishful thinking in gray twilight
Having it my way or your way is it one in the same?
Flesh and bones melt away into being one again
Dithering away the hours until the end of time
In moments of weakness there is no comfort to be found
Self-pity or self-absorbed egocentric lunatic
Chain, chain, chain the old song wraps around my throat
Everything wasted for the sake of love
Love is forsaken
Misunderstood prayers sent flying heavenward
Terrified of being answered
Doubting even God’s wisdom
Blades of grass, we are nothing more
Suddenly ashes in the bonfires of youth
Eagerly misspent achieving whatever we can
Counting on tomorrow’s and second chances
To retrieve what we’ve lost
Now the sun sets and we see darkness coming
A parade of black angels on the horizon
Washing over the face of the sun
Into purple faded memory of what once was
Endless possibility
