Nothing but Feathers

Nothing but feathers she creates whirlwinds and sacrifices
To the east she sees wise men to the west she sees madmen
Mumbling and crumbling with indecision
Deceit tastes like blood and she stops singing
Nothing tastes like it did as a child and she goes hungry
Standing on her hind legs she reaches for the sky
Clutching the horizon with her fingertips
Her teeth take a bite of juicy sunset like peaches and cream
It was perfect once but not anymore
She fell against the jagged heart and pierced her soft white skin
Love was never worth the effort, a disappointment in the end
When she swore to begin again and again and again
Until she was too tired to remember why

What an exceptional write. A rich and beguiling tapestry of images as much political as personal. Yet at the heart of it all a familiar lesson, a shared experienced. Top shelf. You've lifted my heart, despite the subject matter.
