My spirit lurks in the shadows
As I help others to see
Every glitch in their selfish lives
As they spill their hearts to me.
Unaffected by my philosophies
Or those I help to cure
I go through life aloof
For there’s nothing I know for sure
I’m told that I don’t care for anyone
I am merely a working man
My children need a father figure
And she needs a helping hand
But as bland and tasteless as God made me to be,
I say nothing in return, and to show that I see
In sheer desperation I flee to my haven;
The diner located downtown
It is there that familiarity saturates my heart
And nobody wears a frown
I keep a distance from the usual group
For I am not one to talk
But they are aware and give me a smile
As if to say “Hello, Mr. Hawk!”
I sit out my troubles and watch them all,
Night after night after night,
They gossip and laugh as they share their day
Oh, what a life…
