Early Hours

Contributed by Raidne on Thursday, 23rd January 2003 @ 09:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

I cried for the sacredness of it
I cried for the… I don’t know… don’t say that… it hurts to be called a *****
I ran my hands over my face as a symbol of cleansing the emotions and the air surrounding my tired body
Life is love in such brutal ways
Love that is passion is pain in the most beautiful ways
Closing your eyes and looking up into the night skies is a waste of a beautiful view whether it’s clouded over or not
Try to pick out the position of the moon behind the clouds
Breathing frost filtered through dim porch lights

Warm arms under cold streetlights at 3am
I wake up at 2am in my own bed and forget where I am
Thinking I’m with you
Hearing cat bells ringing and walking out into the lounge, blinking into the harsh fluorescent lighting
Calmed by the sight of dying petunias in my blue vase upon my kitchen table
Cigarettes and coffee do not seem like an adequate substitution for him at these early hours

Give me that cheap wine and a distraction until my insomnia passes and I can wake up at 8am in the same state of temporary confusion
Give me a moment to think about kissing your cheek as you sleep and slipping my naked body into your oversized dressing gown
Writing in my journal on your back porch with a cigarette and glass of juice
Walking back in to see you look up at me as I enter
Didn’t mean to wake you, dear
Nap quietly with my hand in yours until I can’t keep my eyes closed anymore
Watching you sleep in those sunlit midday hours
This reminds me of the morning I awoke in your old house
In your old bed
You watching me with a coffee in your hand as I slept
I felt beautiful
Completely trusting
Content
Happy
