Starving To Survive

Contributed by Bohemian_with_a_pen on Wednesday, 30th November 2005 @ 01:41:19 AM in AEST
Topic: obsession

you know full well im starving
and my reflection may be warped
but sacrificing my own needs
is something i was taught
and i know you tell me often
[with eyes bleeding tears black]
that the realm ive joined is blinding
but that one day i'll look back
its hard for me to beleive you
when i cant beleive in me
so i'm aiming for perfection
and finally setting myself free
you don't realize when you say
"stop it, you're barely alive"
that what you think is killing me
is helping me to survive
its far too scary to face the world
out there on my own
and while i still have my control
i'll never feel alone
please dont make me ever leave
this comfort - my safe place
i may not eat, but hunger has passed
theres no need for escape
so i'll serve up another dinner
on an always empty plate
and promise you i'm healthy
and that its not too late.

Good poem! everthing leading up to the ending was
well written and was quite the testament to your
despair.

my favourite lines were:

please dont make me ever leave
this comfort - my safe place
i may not eat, but hunger has passed
theres no need for escape

Nice.

I had read this earlier in the day but posted a comment on your most recent write due to my lack of time. Here I am again, however, to post on this not purely because I read your comment on "In The Ashes" but because there is a single line in this piece that is settling my aching stomach right now. "i may not eat, but hunger has passed". In one of my many visits to my psychiatrist/ed specialist she asked me " How, why do you not eat." and I replied " I'm not hungry" she insisted that this concept was absurd and i thought my god woman you have been dealing with eating disorder patients for twenty two years. Hunger is physical but it is also very much emotional and one can control his/her emotion regardless of if they choose to excercise that control. All I have done is dominate something that most people ignore or submit to and forced it into non existance now, perhaps science can prove my opinion false but what are we but faith, opinions, and our excercise of these things? I believe whole heartedly that spirit can outlast body that mind can control emotion and physical feelings. Explain miracles scientifically and then you can tear down my ability or inability to obliterate this idea this absurd notion of "hunger".

"So i'll serve up another dinner on an always empty plate" how honest and poetically put.
not just going through the motions but this blatant refusal. When you say on an "always" empty plate you make such a statement of power and control. And yet again weakness prowls to decieve what is strength.

~what are we but empty opinions? And absolute truth, well we have washed our bloodstained hands, dead in the wake of this lie "freedom"~weepingprophet

Beautiful!

Your flow in carrying a poem from beginning to end is simply powerful.

I love your writing!

You pick amazing topics and without directly stating what your writing about you "beat around the bush". It forces your story to glow with excitment and curiosty!
