Hazelnut

Contributed by ruby_dreamer on Sunday, 27th November 2005 @ 10:20:40 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

Hazelnut Coffeemate and my grandmother's mug,
Bearing my name that is same as her own,
Sipping in thought, deep nothingness, and yet...
The most thoughtful I have ever been.

Sporting grandpa's Greek Fisherman's cap with a smile,
Never thought such things would look alright.
Is my age a silent law of how I must dress?
Somehow this generation bears fruit in gardens of weeds.

Giving thought to the prayer book my auntie would read,
Morning and evening, she had them rehearsed.
Sip my hazelnut, turn a few pages;
Ah yes, the pot pie's almost done...

To the kitchen I go, sudden change of the time,
Back to grandpa's kitchen, his strange spices;
Artichokes with garlic and butter and wine...
The morning newspaper, Pimples and Heart of the City...

Yes, the pot pie's done.

Popeye the Sailor Man, Olive Oil and Sweet Pea,
Funny how names can accomidate sweet memories.
Popeye's the chicken and the chicken's pot pie...
Mother always said my childhood jokes were a hit.

Hazelnut coffee and pot pie to eat
Thoughts of my childhood transforms in me...
