There was a little girl I know
Who keeps on wearing her big,
red high-heeled shoes
wherever she goes.
There was this dazed look
in her Indian-like eyes,
And nothing in this world exists
that she doesn’t want to try
She smiles at herself
for no apparent reason,
Danced freely to the rhythm of passion,
She enjoys life beneath the traffic jams,
She writes poems, make stories
or even just hum.
But the little girl was no longer happy one day,
She wanted her big, red, high-heeled shoes
to fit and she doesn’t want to play.
She desired for someone to call her
as his own,
Because she thought it was what it takes
to be considered grown.
So the little girl fell in love,
She was flying up and above.
But what goes up as always
must come down,
Soon she ended up with nothing
but ever flowing sorrows and a frown.
The little girl decided
she doesn’t want to be a grown up,
She resumed chewing bubble gums
and lollipops,
Then she tried to say goodbye
to her big, red high-heeled shoes,
But it keeps on following
her wherever she goes.

This poem is so wonderfully written, it brought tears to my eyes. Yes, no rush, soon little girls grow into big girls, then to mommies, and then to grandmommies. Bless all those little girls and their red high-heeled shoes.. I pray one day those red high-heeled shoes find some wonderful low-heeled red boots.. when the perfect times comes... for now let them enjoy their beautiful childhood, we all grow up too fast... Huggs.. Raquel Leah |
