Like a quiet symphony
Which plays repeatedly in my head
The music or word
That gets hidden away instead of said
The lyrics are sometimes for my observation alone
Is the poem adequate for pleasure beyond my own
Like the write that never gets read
The published version is only in my head
But oh how my soul aches for expression
Not so much for recognition
But rather the sharing of a personal vision
So it becomes an act of omission
My own performance by myself scrutinized
Which thwarts my gift of self-expression
So my notebook traverses all the dead lines
A resting place for poetry rhymes
When the piece of poetry I create
Is not of a cliber that posting would necessitate
Then I question the degree of talent within
Can anyone else relate to my chagrin?

Yup I can certainly relate to this. I haven’t been writing lately it seems that inspiration has given up on me or vise versa. Its rather tragic to see but there’s nothing you can do about it, I’ll just have to wait and get inspired.
Nice work Will

Yes indeed! We've all been here a time or twenty!! You expressed the frustration of writers everywhere in this piece Will. There was a good flow to it too, and don't you dare keep your writes to yourself!

Oh yeah, I can relate! This poem, however, does not belong in the Poet's Grave Yard as it is most certainly worthy of posting. Well done. |

How many words have I laid to rest in forgotten tomes that lie throughout my life ?
Terry, I believe your words ( our words ) should not be measured by the adequacy to which they are relateable to others. That which comes from within you and finds its way to the page is every bit as viable as how you feel. Feelings need no justification. I don't believe your words do either.
As far as talent ... well, the more a thing is done ... the easier it becomes ( practice makes perfect ... sorta ) You have continued within the last year to grow and polish your expressions into some rather amazing peices ... I can only imagine the growth will continue. I write for me and while yeah, I wonder sometimes if it will be understood, that I am aware of what it means is the thing that I focus on most. That it can at times create other thoughts and ideas within different readers is what I actually attempt ... sort of a written intended misdirection so to speak.
Nazzy ~
( liking the words and rhyme used here ... greatly )

Will,
yeah .. everything Nazzy said ... and this:
I relate to and LOVE every bit of this. We all go through a sort of
"is this good enough to share?" moment. It's only human. But, like
naz said, we write for ourselves. Weird, I was just having this
conversation with someone right at the moment I read this
piece. And yeah, you write from your heart, your soul. It matters
not what others think; sometimes it matters not even what we,
OURSELVES think. It just pours out and if something spectacular
happens, then so much the better !!
Great write, btw. Tremendous insight!

Ah, so very accurate, and well put Will!
You have captured
the emotion and frustration marvelously. Bravo!
Also, the title is most excellent!

"a time or twenty" Scorpie said --- ah, if ONLY it were so infrequently that I feel that sort of frustration. Yes, Yes... I, too, can relate.
Listen to your heart, Terry... it knows what needs saying and it is it alone that matters. Put the words on the page - post what feels right to share - and never second guess having done so. (now... if only I could take my own advice --- eeesh! I made it sound so easy for a minute there, didn't I? lol)
