WOODEN BOWL

WOODEN BOWL

A frail old man lived with his son,
His daughter-in-law, and four year old grandson.
Parkinson's disease had taken over.
Hand's trembled, eyesight blurred, and his
step was lesser.

Together they all ate as a family.
The old man's hands trembled terribly.
Peas rolled off his spoon to the floor.
His milk many times was a downpour.

His son and daughter-in-law were irritated
with the constant mess!
"I've had enough!" said the son, "His clumsiness
we must address!:"
A small table was set in the corner.
Grandfather ate alone, no longer
welcomed as a family diner.

Breaking dishes finally took it's toll.
So his only dish was a big wooden bowl
Grandfather ate alone, but with a tear in his eye.
The couple never praised, just sharp admonitions
did they apply.

The little four-year old watched in silence.
He finally figured out his grandfather's absence.
The little boy was playing with scraps of wood,
His father asked him if what he was doing was good?

The child replied, "I'm making bowls of wood
One for you and mom, so you can come live
with me like you should."
Speechless were the parents, as tears
streamed down their cheeks.
Each knew what to do, although
neither one speaks!

That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand
Gently led him back to the family table first hand.
From that day until he died, he ate every meal
with the family.....
No one uttered a word when a fork dropped,
milk spilled, or the tablecloth was soiled badly.

This was sent to me
in an email, it was so
touching, I couldn't resist!
The poem is mine

"Love is not written on paper,
for paper can be erased.
Nor is it etched on stone,
for stone can be broken.
But it is inscribed on
a heart and there
it shall remain
forever."
~Author unknown~

"Always be Kind!"
*Smiles*

  • *is speechless*
    Wow. Wow, wow, wow.

Such a heartwrenching tale, and so true... brought tears to my eyes.
The flow was beautiful, but the content mattered the most to me.
So deep and powerful, a lesson we should all learn.

    *huggles*

    Thanks for sharing this.
    Touching beyond belief.

Yes this is one of te most gripping stories. It is also implied in the bible.ad in other world literature.
You composed the story so exquisitely
How great is charity or kindness.
    Beautifully penned ConSe.
