OLD AGE IS A WONDERFUL GIFT

OLD AGE IS A WONDERFUL GIFT

I hate water, never go swimming.
Except now that I'm old it can be slimming.
I have the pool alone almost every day.
One good look, and they say, "Don't feed
it, maybe it will go away!"
*Smiles*

Young folks ask me how it feels to be old.
Old age is a gift, I now feel consoled.
I ride my bike, wearing anything I please.
Completely uninhibited, as free as a breeze.

Now, I can be just who I am.
Everything I have sags, who cares,
it's finally just flimflam.
My friends mean so much to me,
I wouldn't trade one of them for
any amount of beauty.

As I grew older, I began to like myself.
I'm much kinder, more loving to thyself.
I've truly become my own best friend.
Learned how on me to depend and defend.

If I want to dress all up and not make
my bed.
I can no longer hear my Mother.....
I just go ahead.
A good book can be read all night,
I'll sleep in the next day till noon,
that will be all right!

I try to watch my weight, but if I want
an extra cookie I take it.
Others don't, and they still aren't fit.
Many sacrifices for others in our lifetime
Now it's our turn, this is our playtime.

I never allow myself to get
depressed,
I n'er forget how much I've
been blessed
Old age is a wonderful gift.....
Just thinking of all the years
I've lived gives me a lift!

I'm headed toward my 70th year
Just think I endured long enough
to overcome all fear.
And all that I've learned,
I know for sure.
I've lived it, and with a joyful
heart I finally feel secure!

When I head for my resting place,
My double chin I'll take with my face.
With much love and caring I've run the race.
Old age is a wonderful gift, I've enjoyed it
with much grace.

There is no old age.
There is, as there always
was, just you!

O Magazine,

My Dear Connie !!!!! I have been absent for work reasons for a bit and you have just gone on a tear !!! I have much to catch up on.

This fabulous sentiment just reinforces my thoughts about life ... and you ... and the fact that at any age we can remain young at heart and that is what truly makes a difference.

Nazzy ~
( hoping my heart stays as young as yours for as long as yours !!!! )

A very happy & spirited write, ConSue. You had me grinning from ear to ear, through every line, and through every stanza. I'm still grinning. Very inspirational. I am so happy I have discovered you and your pleasant writes.

A thoroughly wonderful poem.
