Masquerade

Contributed by bushkeeper on Monday, 14th November 2005 @ 05:34:20 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

I have danced the masquerade for so long now
That I know not who I am,forgot to care
Danced I have with such controlled perfection
Breezed with Kelly,floated with Astaire
But the mask is slipping now, inexorably falling
Lowered by the haunting heat of truth
That thaws the frosted mind to warm reality
Enveloping with thoughts of only you

So long have I held this mask of dreaming
Concealed myself in false love, wrecked in rust
A mishmash of prayer and promised future
That now blows windward as fogotten dust

As it falls, a sense of freedom is now rising
Transfusion of the soul is drawing near
My blood is coursing startled to my heartbeat
And I am gripped in agoraphobic fear
Should I leave my sanctuary-castle walls forever?
Venture forth,no armour,vulnerable and weak?
Or rot in safety of cerebral cellblock?
No! Hand me the stones, it's truth that I must seek

The heartstones have been cast, the signs are cryptic
Look for me beside the fallen face
Greet me bathing in love's gentle waters
Or lift be bleeding from my base disgrace

I think this poem has very creative wordsmithing... (I love the references to Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, cerebral cellblock, inexorably falling, agoraphobic fear)... Such words lend to its poetic and intelligent style and tone.

I do believe your talent to be immense. Welcome to YPDC. We all make mistakes in life but we cannot wall ourselves away forever to bleed in disgrace because of them. We just have to learn the lessons presented and try again to find that forever love.

Blessings,
Rita
