The Most Unbearable Burden

Contributed by enigma on Sunday, 13th November 2005 @ 06:13:09 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

The deepest pain in a child's life
has always been given them
by the ones they love the most…
their parents.
A child's spirit can only be wounded,
a child's heart can only be torn,
by the ones they trust the most…
their parents.
The heaviest burden a child is given to carry
has been neatly packed
and placed securely on the child's back,
by their parents.

This is universal truth.

But,
it is also true,
that,
the greatest pain,
the deepest wound,
the most searing tear,
the most enduring sorrow,
and the most unbearable burden for a parent,
is knowing this is so.

Completely true. All throughout my life my parents always have fought over nothing. Well they still fight, but I always remember those nights where they'd shout for hours. I never got much sleep on those nights.
Great write

A strong poem that rings true for this 43- year old divorcee, father of two. Marriage breakups are hard enough, but seeing what it does to your children is heartbreaking.
