Before the End

How many times fresh
How many times fading
How many separate instances
Where it lies in wait
For the slightest moment of hesitance
To speak, to touch, to kiss
To even hold a gaze
Ceasing to amaze
My reliability is out the window
Falling a hundred stories or so
Reaching terminal velocity
Before exploding into thousands
Bits of bloody bone
From skeletal remains of failure
Of such things, there will not even be one
Not one pain-soaked whisper
Nothing except the current confusion
The disingenuous and deceptive motions
We shall never see together
The rise and fall of the oceans
