nothing i write is true

Contributed by darkeyedman on Wednesday, 22nd January 2003 @ 09:40:00 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I have loved one woman, honored one god, made peace with my place in the world.
Nothing I write is true.
I have killed good men, watched love die, helped myself and no other.
Everything I write is true.
I have told no lies, done no harm, lived my life as I should.
Sometimes the truth hides its eyes.
I have spurned my woman, failed my god, searched for meaning and found none.
Sometimes the truth is hard.
What eyes can turn so abruptly, that ones own soul can be examined? We hold our heads high, unaware of eyes that judge much clearer outside the foggy swamp of self image.
We tell the most convincing lies to ourselves, because we want to believe. We cheat ourselves out of discovery and improvement, all for the sake of ego. You can’t cheat an honest man, but can you find one in the mirror? Nothing I write is true.

good grief, it just dawned on me that you could take what i said the wrong way! when i said you inspired that poem, it was not because of the poems you write. the inspiration was in the rather criptic reply you gave the other day on the poem hurricane. just wanted you to know that when i said you inspired this poem, i meant that without one ounce of mean. your reply made me examine the relationship between reader and the author, that the reader must believe he or she is reading words which spilled in blood upon the page. no one wants to be the victim of a clever liar, even though at times that is all i am. perhaps not that clever. at any rate, i hope you know i didn't write that as a slam to you. you simply touched a chord. i hope you accept my apology, and remember 'nothing i write is...... jim
