Softly to My Wake

Contributed by Man_On_High on Tuesday, 8th November 2005 @ 12:46:45 AM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

Come softly to my wake
on shuffling feet
at the greying end of day
into the smoke and heat.

Enter quietly and smiling.. unknown-
among the garrulous guests
gathered in tearful nests
to reminisce and moan.

Come not with ornate grief
to desecrate my sleep,
but with a calm togetherness of hands..
quiet as the windless sands;

and if weep you must,
be it for the old, quick lust...for life
now lost in dust
only you could shake from it's lair.

Come softly to my wake
if only to drink and break
the rugged crust
of friendly bread;

while weeping not
for me, the dead..
lying quiet..there
upon the pillowed bed
with a lifeless stare-
together... with a memory
of the life I led.

Billy

Wonderfully stated and put. ^^
I like how you think, Billy....instead of mourning the passing of those we treasure, we should merely keep them in our memories, and treasure whatever experiences we were gifted by them with.
Well done!

To capture, true memories, that do linger on, and on.! Yes, to lose, is hitroutios........and the worse ever.! But, yet we do know things live on in ones mind, and heart.! Captivating and with many feelings.! Always a plesure, to read a write of yours.!

I must say though the topic itself doesn't thrill me, still, I couldn't stop reading once I started. You have a gift of flow my good sir....so awfully well crafted!!

Stellar.

Glad I am back around the site for a bit since I finally wrote something
new again. It's good to see you about and new things written. You are
just as good as I remembered. Loved the feelings and images I saw in my
mind while I read this.

...very nicely orchestrated...so many images with minimal number of syllables...leaves the reader with a rich sense of your spirit like the aroma of black cavendish curling into the atmosphere...but it doesn't leave me satisfied...it actually inspires me to explore thoughts about my own inevitable wake...

...a very rich memory...I know it will call my name some time in the future...it has a feel about it that brings Fernanda Rocha's (Ladymoon) expressions to mind...that's a compliment...

...very, very enjoyable...

...I am indebted...
