The six months I spent clubbing baby seals was the happiest time of my life.
The pay was good, my mates were fun, and the job was easy as long as you were quick. Those little b***ards bite! Gutting them on the ice, feeding the inards to the fish: you couldn’t leave them lay, the polar bears would come. Perfect little white pelts tanning on the ships rail like flags of victory. I always wanted to keep a pelt, and make myself a hat.
Now I spend my days teaching first grade. The pays not so good, the other teachers are boring, but the job’s easy as long as you are quick. These little b***ards bite! Somedays, I think I may still make myself a hat.
