The start of our story
Lays in the heart of the glory
A young child felt
Back before she was dealt
This deck of unruly cards
That have no guards.
Just before the start of summer
Her life was a bummer.
Filled with taunting laughter
And many things after.
Backstage was the relief
In that life of grief.
Suddenly camp had started
And she had parted
With all the bad things
That threatened to hold her like strings.
Surrounded by friends who were true
She started to pursue things she never knew.
Then camp was over, summer near its end
But it was ok because she had learned to befriend.
Finally confident with who she was
She started to notice others, and their flaws
For the first time she realized as if in a trance
There was more to be seen, then in the first glance.
School started, and pressure returned.
But her focus was elsewhere, as she soon learned.
She was tuned to her friends, for they had problems to solve
And there was no turning away, without a resolve.
She tried over and over, if only to fix just a small bit
But then she would turn away, and it would all split.
The pressure was mounting, grades had to stay perfect.
There were friends to protect, and her life to inspect.
For as she was trying to keep up with the lives of Friends
She had forgotten to notice, that hers was at ends.
Suddenly there was too much, she just couldn’t take it any longer.
She held something sharp to the skin, for it was stronger.
She promised her friends, that the first was the last
But then the pressure rose, and the promise, was a thing of the past.
Her friends started to worry, but still they trusted her to stop there
For once more she had promised, to drop it and beware.
But after the second, addiction had hold
Her friends could do nothing, but watch it unfold.
She refused to admit to addiction
Saying that it was only a thing of fiction.
Soon her legs were the target of harm
And the cause for alarm.
When she found herself armed, without having thought
She knew she was addicted, and was quickly distraught.
One day the truth was too much, it poured from her to another
She had spilled to her cousin, who quickly told her mother.
When asked about it, her immediate reaction was to deny.
But soon she saw, she could say goodbye to the lie.
Her mother dearest obviously knew
So she realized the charade was through.
She told her mom she had stopped
That it was all over, the habit dropped.
When in fact, that was simply a dream
In truth, it was not dropped, just past the extreme,
For she was still under the hold of gray
And hard as she tried, she didn’t seem able to pull away.
Soon came the day
When all things acquired a cast of dismay.
The words “my mom found an email” registered all to fast.
She read the words, racking her brain for an email of the past
Soon she remembered, it was the one saying sorry
Now look what had happened, everything was going starry
Then all the issues calmed down,
Seemed as if there would no longer be frowns,
That is as long as there was no more self-harm,
No more blood coming from an arm.
But then it happened once more,
And it seemed to close a door.
Suddenly she started to sense
Just how intense
The pain of which she was the cause,
Really was, and then she saw the flaws.
She loved her friends dearly,
So their pain made her see things more clearly.
She tried to turn back and make amends
But she’d gone around too many bends,
There was no turning back, not now
She would just have to figure out how
To fix her life, and think of the future
Stitch her life back together, with friendships sutures.
Still it took so much painful time,
For her to overcome this sin, this crime
And now shes gone over sixty days,
And never given in to the fake rays.
And now she has one wish,
“Don’t let me have fake bliss.”

While long - it has it's reward. A most emotion felt write, pressures, or life, or friends - expectations, sometime's take all the more toll on us, then we think possible. We never realize until it's too late, and most people unlike the end of your poem, don't usually find their way back out. It is an addiction, most are drawn to it, because of the power it inflicts, the control it bestows on it's victim. Great write, I really enjoyed reading. Keep up the good work, and I hope to see more soon.
