Panther
Iron bars...concrete floor;
rusted hinges on bolted door;
a lonely heart, too long ignored,
the ebony panther paces to and fro,
he's walked every square inch,
there's no place left to go...
In a cool dark corner he lies,
his only companions are occasional flies,
his weary spirit speaks
through golden ochre eyes,
and his heart...
oh, his heart, is just barely alive...
reality is just a murmur deep inside.
But in the mystical twilight
his soul escapes,
his spirit screams,
as he prowls in rhythm with nature
beside jungle streams...
At last he's home,
deep in the forest,
cool and green...
But, he knows...
oh, yes,
deep inside he knows,
it's only a dream...

you write beautiful poetry. i don't like superficial poetry, where people are just writing to try to be like someone else, or to just do it. i like stuff that speaks to me...stuff that comes from the soul. and your work does just that. it's been a long time since i've been able to truy appreciate good poetry. so thanks for that. this one in particular really stuck with me. it's amazing. |
