People ask me, “YOU write Poetry?
A disbelief or cynicism, how to worry?
Yes, “I WRITE POETRY!”, I tell them
Tights, long hairs, how can be my form ?
Big teeth, smoking jacket and what more
If it`s most people`s idea, I`m not that lore
Thanks to the shackles of my appearance
Local papers mock me, “A poetic trance”
Associated terms: ‘poofs, wimps, weirdoes’
What`s really feminine about those words?
If I start wandering lonely as the cloud
Does that make me fluffy, not to be proud
I wish I could tie my audience down
Dressed in best camouflage without crown
Bawl some of my good poems at them
To make them realize that writing a poem
Isn`t really a weakness, but a strength
YES, I`M A POET! I convey at full length
If you could say, All Poets are Wimps!
Try telling ME and see what happens!

I was a bit surprised to see that you dropped this in the "humorous poetry" category. I took it quite seriously, actually. Some of the greatest examples of bravery that I've seen came in the form of a poem. Poets are indeed brave souls and those that mistakenly think otherwise ahve, in my opinion, a skewed perception of what bravery is.
Interesting, thought provoking write. Thanks for sharing this.

Yes I too write poetry and am not ashamed to say so, to the surprise of many. Even Leonard Nemoy (Mr. Spock) has published a book of poetry. Wimp or not, Poetry is an expression of feelings and there is nothing wrong with expressing one's self...............Mike |

right on! I get that a lot too. its more of a strength then anything b/c we know how to write down are feelings and convey them to the fullest. Its the worst when ppl try and tell you poetry isn't an art but none of those ppl could do it and do it well!! I tottally agree with what your saying keep it up! |
