Poison runs down
into the his flesh it seeps.
Raping his wealth.
The dragon he weeps.
Caustic smoke looms
into the air it churns.
Flame carried by the wind.
A butterfly's wings now burn.
Ripping away
the dragon’s scales.
We build new castles.
For worms to dwell.
Flowers now a memory.
Such an unfortunate fate.
Fore the butterfly had no wings
to carry its freight.
The dragon’s tears roll forth
and create new storms.
Many have died
now that the days have warmed.
They can protect us no longer
from our own star’s burning flame.
If we cease to be
they are not to blame...

...good write...caught the mysterious essence...the spirit of our insane desire to destroy...there are those blind among us who are almost giddy about destruction...
...your last line, 'they are not to blame,' struck me...my life philosophy can be summed up with this...We are the sum total of our genetics and life experience...our actions, thoughts, desires, emotions...our existence is the result of the raw material (our physical existence) and all that we experience...no action is initiated, born, begun, but that these two entities have produced it...
...do we bear the responsibility for our genetics?
...do we bear the responsibility for our experiences?
...if you answer, yes, then, when is it we escape the gravity of our past experience...at what point is it we become independant of all the experience that has made us what we are?
...so many want to play the blame game when what is needed is a preponderance of appropriate experience...only appropriate counterbalancing experience will produce healthy change...
...I enjoyed the thoughts your poem provoked...
...thanks...
