The Bigger Picture

Contributed by Mangos on Thursday, 3rd November 2005 @ 09:24:07 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

The world is poised to implode
Sitting on the edge of its seat
Catching a breath
The constant spinning has made it sick
Floating amongst nothing for an eternity
The next sixty seconds can feel like their burning

The mountains are positioned to erode
The oceans had a premonition-
And they sunk into the crust
Where the lava bit them-
And threw them back up

The rain forest has lost its seeds
They tractor- trailers haul in their disease
Countless species, get down on their knees
And beg the industries
To go away and leave them in peace

The great green lake has shrunk
The fish on their backs from the oily drum
The ship torched, in the triangle that haunts
The Caribbean-
Seas of waste cover the coral escape-
And the beauty is drowned

And when you least expect
The world attempts to correct
The natural defect-
The human ability to self-reflect
To make a move
Use its muscular reflex
To stick out its neck
Place it out on the line
For life over death
For nurturing and motherhood
As opposed to felony neglect
For patience and brotherhood
Let us not quickly forget
We are floating alone in a universe
The home we share, we should protect
Writing alone in this basement
I am as guilty now, as is the next
So I take my place with you in line
And pray for human-kind, never to upset-
The balance that has been given
A delicacy, meant to be, our greatest asset

How I wish this weren't true...It's funny how we're supposed to be the 'intelligent' species on earth, yet we're the only ones mucking it up! This is a thought-provoking write, because it makes the reader come to grips with what kind of role he/she has played to either help and/or hinder our world...Well done.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
