A Will To Believe

I wound this little cord around my fist
I wrapped a scarlet scarf around my wrist
I drank in sorrow
I gorged on hate
I left you wondering
I answered too late
where are we to go with this?
“tell me, tell me what happened,
tell me the truth”
a place where booze makes pretty girls
prettier
promise me a lie on your lips
will taste as sweet as the truth
a desperation
a will to believe
I burned the scarf, I cut the cord
I’m just not willing anymore
to be swallowed up in you
who was I fooling?
you know I’ve only ever loved him
and this is the lie-
I stayed in the car an hour with you
you said the words and I didn’t fly
I called you by his name-
the face is different
the fear is the same

I enjoyed the progression and definately the feeling in this peice. My favorite part was the last stanza-the imagery- it's just brilliant.
