Hey, Old Man
"Hey! Old Man," said the philosopher,
"Got a few minutes?
Come on out,
C'mon...
Look,
Up,
Clouds,
Mesmerizing, aren't they?
Watch 'em weave and flow,
tumbling all over themselves in a timeless cadence,
continually changing shape,
one atom nudging another,
that atom prodding still another and another and another,
wisps of angel breath simply flowing,
an ordinary, everyday ballet...
Such Beauty...
Such Grace...
The complexity is astronomically unimaginable,
well beyond man's present ability to compute.
It's all physics, though,
cause and effect.
Mass, momentum, force, temperature, atoms, molecules...
It's mathematical,
not any kind of math "man" has mastered,
but, an incomprehensible multifarious math,
an intricate, inauspicious, unyielding, guiding, wholy fractal,
an all defining pattern repeated already in the subatomic realm,
then again in the atomic,
and once more in the molecular,
on through compounds,
and cells,
and tissues,
and organs,
and organisms,
and families,
and communities,
and societies,
and nations,
and worlds,
and planetary systems,
on through universal systems,
and probably beyond that...
Because man cannot explain the complexity of the physics,
or harness it with interrelated mathematical equations and formulas,
do we just assume that the cloud is deciding to move here,
changes its mind and then moves over there,
and then to another place, and another, and another?
Do we assume the cloud is making decisions?
We quite understandably assume there is some magical difference,
some supernatural anointing,
some gift given by the gods or god,
that differentiates between the natural phenomenon of clouds,
and the natural phenomenon of human experience.
If clouds are beyond man's ability to explain,
how much more is man beyond his own ability to explain?
Because man cannot explain the complexity of the physics,
or harness it with interrelated mathematical equations and formulas,
do we just assume that humans are deciding to move here,
changing their minds and then moving over there,
and then to another place, and another, and another?
Do we assume the human is making decisions?
or,
are human movements simply an exponentially more complex,
cloud?
Complexity.
The word is woefully inadequate.
Man, woman, girl, boy...
they,
us,
we, are the sum total of our genetics and life experience.
To help T------,
to help anyone,
appropriate experience must be introduced to his sum total.
anything less is effectually telling him,
them,
the innocent among us,
to stuff it,
to muscle it,
to bury it deep,
to sever the wires,
to get "it" out of "our" sight
so "we" can achieve "our" agenda.
Historical attempts have used the experience of pain and pleasure,
heaven and hell,
artificial, cold, calculated input that uses threat to procure desired actions.
I am uncomfortable with that.
It can be done.
I have done it in the past,
and was called "successful."
Many of those I practiced on,
R------ D-B-------,
A----- H----,
S-- L--------
J------ W-------;
these and many others either met a violent death,
or are existing in J------- State Penitentiary.
We live a lie if we tell ourselves these are isolated disturbances,
scattered showers...
This is a war...
No!
This is The War...
How, then, do I,
how do we,
how do those who care,
cure, and not just place band-aids on gaping abdominal wounds?
If not the cure,
then how do we manage to live with ourselves
knowing what we know?
If not the cure,
then we share a common claim of insignificance, privacy and self-preservation
with those common historical citizens who we shall soon share a common guilt,
the guilt of contributing to,
or, at least, not giving our all to prevent
another holocaust of the innocent...
How long must the mother's of Ramah wail?
How long must Rachel bitterly weep for the slaughter of her children?
S---!
I can't handle this...
Sorry I brought you out here, Old Man....
Let's go back inside,
where we at least "felt" safe,
some place where we don't have to look at the clouds."

This is very different from anything I've seen, but it's intriguing. I wonder if I don't agree on the idea that experiences produce certain kinds of reactions, and that these could be predicted and controlled. I find myself easily manipulated sometimes, and yet if I go along with the fact that I *am* being manipulated - it feeds the creative process without the negatives that manipulation usually brings. (That may be confusing - sorry...)
I'm going to have to read this several times over I think.
Excellent thought-provoking write!
Blessings, J. |

Absolutely brilliant in parts, great effort.
All aspects of clouds are covered by physics, nothing much left to explain there though.
Something unexplainable doesnt mean it doesnt have any explanaion, it just means we havent found any just yet.
