Losing a loved one

It feels like a knife in your heart
A blade being twisted quickly
And pushed deeper inside your body
Then pulled out slowly; it's torture
To know that someone you love
Is dying and you can't help them
Especially when you are close
It's hard to let them go
And when it's quick
And you don't get to say goodbye
I can tell you
A part of you dies
So the pain of a soul split in half
Keeps you from moving on
And you dwell in the past
And you can't even imagine
How much they hate you
Or at least you think they do
I doubt they do
They still love you
But you still feel responsible
Do you want to know why?
It's because no matter how long they are gone,
You still love them and they are always in your heart.
