Autumn Leaves

Contributed by Cupid on Wednesday, 26th October 2005 @ 08:49:11 PM in AEST
Topic: Holiday Poetry

Branches full of deciduous leaves
Reach out to touch me.
They’re leaves that change colour
This time of year.
Autumnal Equinox.
Lovely colours of red, orange &
Yellow splendour.
Red as fresh Blood,
Orange as the morning Sun,
Yellow as lemon Tears.
And maybe even brown.
The brown decay of a life
long-past.
The leaves, oh, the leaves!
So simple yet so complex in
Their ordered structure.
Veins give the plants their own
Type of Blood.
Yes, glucose.
They give glucose to the
Hands of the leaves.
The leaves, oh, the leaves!
They wave in the breeze.
They sigh with the wind.
They are in love with their
Grounded decaying counterparts.
The dry brown grass.
And when it rains, it pours.
It really does pour.
Wet leaves! Yech!
NEVER jump in a pile of
Wet leaves.
Their snippid smell will
Stick to you.
Your clothing.
Your skin.
But will wash off with a bit of
Soap.
Bathtime! Soapy mess all
Over the floor.
With a ring of dirt around
The Rim of the tub.
Who made this mess?
Why, just a child who has played
Among the Autumn Leaves!

: D
