String of Pearls
Moments…
myriad moments…
myriad of myriad of myriad moments…
Like breath’s liquor,
flowing cell by cell by cell
through life’s minutest duct;
pushing,
surging,
pulsing…
A river of experience
reduced to a singular path,
a single file,
a moment by moment passage
into an intricate, interdependent, unchangeable past.
Experience empirically reduced to its most basic, singularly essential component parts;
the irreducible,
the simplest, purest, least complicated, unsophisticated essence.
These moments flood our existence like pearls on a string;
small,
large,
unblemished spheres
radiating a soft warm opalescence,
or, irregularly twisted globs
with blistered, gray, tortured surfaces.
Pearls.
Moments.
Pearls.
Moments.
Pearls.
Moments.
A moment is experienced,
a pearl is strung,
its knot secured,
its signature irrevocably established like genes on a chromosome;
its relative position determined for all time;
for all ages,
for every eonically incomprehensible epoch of existence...
it is;
no more,
no less.
The tears of angels,
the sobbing of the gods themselves
could not make it different.
And then,
another moment,
another pearl,
another eternal knot;
Then another and another and still another.
Faster than the glistening spear of radiance emanates from a newborn's innocent eye,
swifter than thought,
less hindered than imagination's roiling flow,
tirelessly,
the Knotter knots.
Can it be denied that each of us
is but an unfathomable string of pearls,
stealthily strung… one by one by one,
from the very first to the very last,
moment by moment by moment?

Clever idea, I like the poem, but it grows very tedious by the time one reaches the end. |

Well this comment won't be as long as the
one you put on my poem lol. Anyway this was
a really different poem which was good. I
enjoyed it and thought it was beautifully
penned. It sounded kinda manic to me at
least when I'm manic thats what I sound like
lol. Anyway welcome to YPDC I hope to see
you around for quite some time.

walt whitman. modern day.
did you ever read him? i think we all have in school at one point or another, but that's what this poem reminds me of. scientific without lacking passion. in a word, classic. |
