Vampires All

The bell tolls at the church’s prow
Bats are astir at the raven’s flight into the shadowy night
Crosses are nailed upon doors and prayers are said
The moon rises through the hazy mist full of suffering and sorrow
Eyes glitter under the satin stars of cold ice
An eerie chant is whispered by the gravedigger who listens to the groans of the crumbling tombstones
They who heed the raven’s call are about tonight
Cross yourself deeply and keep close the knife

On silent wing clever bats do fly
Screeching and shrieking they pierce the twilight
The moon glimmers and the stars glisten as the enchanted ones follow the mournful beacon
Pine candle held high and sweet melodies do ring
Green sleeves calling to the ones who have a velvet invitation
Chariots halt lined with silver and onyx
Tonight shall be the kingdom’s most grand ball

Flitting ballroom dancers make up the vampires’ court
The moon spills light through the windows, now fully waxed
Unaware mortals join the dance completely mesmerized
Dancers with skin the color of ice
Others with beautiful flowery flesh full of blood
Never suspecting their viens tonight might tear

Candles dot the room alight like tiny glowing dancers
A handsome face smiles at the young lass he is courting
The gentleman inconspicuously runs his tongue over his teeth watching her cheeks turn rosy with blood
A table is bumped and candlelight shimmers as a table is spotted with dripping wax
The foolish maiden is pulled aside and dies in searing pain from his fangs of ice
But the dance goes on because these poor souls are entranced by the piano’s Green sleeves

A pretty girl holds a young man’s gaze in her violet eyes that astound and allure
Together they gaze out the window at sparkling stars like a cloak full of shining tears
She gives him a frigid kiss, leaving his lips numb with ice
Surely this must be winter’s court
Yet it is spring outside with bees making honey and combs of wax
The boy’s neck reveals the secret in his black crusted blood

Dancers twirl around the room while the mortals hum the song
Visions of solitary dancers in the mirror neither perturbs nor warns the mortals
Hungry mouths with serrated fangs moisten as living scents of flesh fill the air
The moon has risen indicating play time in the vampires’ court
Now that the lord and queen have left their pawns with empty veins of ice

The vampires swarm over their unsuspecting guests
Throats parched from lust for the elixir that sustains their immortality
Eyes of violet, cherry, and cobalt stare into those hazed with fright
Screams erupt as jugular viens tear and the floor is spotted with blood
Frost fills the air, leaving ice crystals on the tables and chairs
Tapestries are ripped and flower vases upset
Now the mortals notice that the flowers are not dewy and young
But dried and dead like the pine boughs that are hung
All the furniture is carved of yew
Now upset and turned over from the rampant mortals
All décor is red and black
Not a merry color to be found in this frozen fortress
Death awaits these blind beasts who are to be slaughtered like cattle

However, one guest is not chased down the hall, instead he is led
Up the stone cut stairs unembellished
To the tower where the vixen was reborn
Her skin is white and cool to the touch
Her viens flow icy and show blue in her chest
A heart frostbitten black and purple slowly beats
Her cheeks bear a rosy blushing tint
Her lover looks up at her, her gown awhirl
Lacy cuffs and silky finery adorn her dress
A cape and hair ribbons tied to enhance her girl tresses
A white corset with silver trappings
Black cords and beads for her arm wrappings
A broach of opal, a tiara of sapphire
She with a spirit like a wildflower

She closes the door for a moment of brief eternity
Only to creak open again with darkness slithering out
His feet noiselessly step over the wood floor
White and red rose petals flutter away, creating a path
The soft glow of candles create a halo around a figure lying on a white cushion
Arms and legs outstretched, dangling, long and sleek
Chest rises and falls effortlessly, capturing the room’s breath

He comes to his knees before the pale figure
Lips full and glossed crimson, as if the heart had bled onto them
A casqued of golden hair spills behind from a crown of curls
Eyes green with deep pupil pools of the mysterious darkness

He runs his fingers along the leg nearest him
Calf sculpted and hard, feet adorned with black heels that glitter
Body swathed in an ebony gown, gossamer fabric clinging close
Lips open to bleed him a request, whispers shimmer in the candlelight

He leans in closer to taste the stained strawberries moving in a murmur
The lidded eyes glimmer and taunt, knowing the secret at hand
The nostrils flair at the rustic male scent swaying through the air
A harpist plucks at the strings beckoning the enticing aura

He whispers into the elfish ears twitching and giggling
A sea of white cream ripples and flows under dark travelers wandering
The travelers circle a deep perforation, stopping to toy with a mole
Crossing through a valley, a mountain on either side

His fingers lightly trace the lightest skin too precious for the sun to see
Sticky sweet lilac spray dances through the air, the candle wax a stir
Humming sweet sunrise flickers from the floor
Red and white swirl tickling the flames

He melts into the figure as the wax is dripping so slowly until the air reverberates shrilly
The white cloud slowly inches its way north, taking with it a brewing storm
Crashing light upon dark the colors romping, trying to mix
Air grabbing from the room quickly and often

His shuddering breath extinguishes small halos about the room
Violet, grey, and blue curling from fallen angels
Explosions of noise crack and split the air
Long thin knives leave rose colored lines

He pulls away from the figure, finally, at last
Tiny flowers still dangle over little cups full of wax
Petals cease waltzing and the room steals a silent breath
The white cushion is still and the pale figure collapsed

The vixen is a temptress indeed for she is forever sixteen
Never a day older, never to age or grow weary and cold
Always holding her dear one by a thread
She need not enchant him, their love was already said
For indeed she belongs to the lord, his princess his personal whore
But her love saved her away from this place
Her coffin lies at his home, its final resting place
He pets her casket and paints it for her
Even death cannot damper their love

It was a cold night like this one indeed
The poor thing was startled and attempted to flee
However she was cornered and alas it was too late
She was bitten by the infamous Lestate
She wept bitterly for her shining curls could never see the sun again
Her reflection was gone and her vanity for it pierced her deep
Most of all the sacrifice of her family and the one she held dear

Scared and moments away from dawn she wandered
Until she found the house of her lover
There he held her and there she cried
She desolately said goodbye
But he took her hand and held her close
He made for her a casket made of wood and carved with a rose
There she slept whimpering all day
For it was dark inside and outside was where she wanted to play

Every night he let her out into the world
He fed her beasts’ blood in glasses blown and whorled
Never a creature did she ever see die
He held on to her and stroked her hair
Telling her she was the one who was beautiful and most fair
Lestate wanted his princess, but could never touch
For her love had made a special sort of curse
Never again would the vampire steal her dark spirit

The lord ranted as the court drank its fill
His hands blackening and burning every time he touches the doorknob or windowsill
Untouchable and perfect the two leave the room
Smiling and laughing gaily, hoping not to return too soon
Her black satin dress behind billows like a cloud at dusk
Fangs hang from her berry lips like ivory stems
Adorable and childlike, the lord grabs for them
But to no avail, they frolic on
A necklace of rubies glinting under her hair the color of gilded pearls
Breasts round like a pair dead turtle doves wrapped in her ebony gown

The vampire lord watches as they slip through the doors
Bodies litter the floor spotted with blood and candles
Vampires gather at the windows to gaze as the stars of ice glisten and gleam
Tiny droplets of blood are wiped from mouths as the moonlight slowly drips away like tears
The doors slam shut and the beautiful couple flees to her rosy bed
Caskets are opened as the court empties, leaving behind only the extinguished stubs of wax

The queen slumbers in her wooden bed
However, the lord paces as the sunbeams grow ever closer
Just outside these halls are torches and garlic
In their coffins the damned guests turn and toss
Yet these vampires need not stir, the crowd’s unaware
For their game is the foxy pair

The vixen and her mate do scurry by
Laughing with rosy cheeks, towards the woods they glide
The night shields the coy pair but not for long
The ravens cackle and the raccoons chirp and growl
Into the oasis, a secret place
Beautiful, yet tainted with wisps of the deceased

The waterfalls curled and wept round the trees and blades of grass
Fish do not swim here in this place of rest
Crows’ skulls litter the watery pebble bed
A murder of crows all drowned and dead
Shards from the grim reaper’s scythe
Blessed be those who say away tonight

The vixen and the fox embrace one another tight
Night newly fallen give hours of darkness to the one who the sun longs to kiss
A kiss of death this would be
For the one who sleeps under the rose of grace and pity
The drums beat the riotous chord
Voices tremble with anger and selfish wishes
Lanterns and crosses held high marching
An evil precession towards the Lake of Mort
Glassy and black, poor thing, run away
The two hear the voices coming, away they flee
Through the water she cannot go
They climb up the staggered height for everlasting night

Horde of waspy beings that swarm and sting
Run princess, away from the beasts!
Hide in your roses before the dawn brings dust
Curls fly and skin ripples through the twilight winds
Steaks close behind, forbidden ugly woods
Tears fill the moonlight and dampen the streets
The stars hang low to catch and whisper secrets
Strung arrows twang to the drums’ heavy beat
Fly true demons and devour thy prey

A winged warrior strikes the tight empty vein
Muscle flings upward and the vixen falls
Her love catches her up into his strong arms
Together they race moments from the door
Almost, almost to the rosy floor

Another messenger full of agility and speed
Hits another vein, this one full and it bleeds
Fallen is her love, away they tumble
The horde consumes them, hearing their frightened shrieks
Hands clasp and see melted tears
Steaks driven with crosses carved as the sun arrives
The mother comes out and drives the angry wasps away
Sadly, she picks up the broken pieces that lay
Two pale figures with thin dust
They lay together in love with steaks through their hearts

Now they sleep
Inside the princess’s rose casket together they lay
Nailed shut with silver and covered in gold chains
The vampire lord growls in vain
His court slowly slinks away
No more vampires for this world
They all crumble for this one little girl
Parties gone empty with cobwebs
The lord and queen’s immortality slowly ebbs

When night falls again the lord prowls
His queen moves the court, their caskets heaved
All arranged in the shape of a pinnacle in the tomb underneath
The castle is empty and seems old and rotten
However the lord has not forgotten
Upon the nights he slinks through the stars
Searching for his princess and revenge upon
The one who stole her when she was never his to keep
By day returning empty handed to the tomb filled with the vampire court asleep
Never shall he find her in the tomb where she lay
The key melted and mounted in silver engraved:
'Until death do us part' in not Latin, Middle English, or French
But of the vampire’s script, spidery and calligraphic
May they rest their souls to Neverwhere
Because living is not always very fair
