Wide grating open up
The bodies move boorishly
In the gaunt space
The light of the day
That scarce light
Plays in the cold bodies of fear
When in the hidden night
The stars shine
The bodies stop
The souls are linked
The senses are anxious
In our empire
The senses reign
The pain is a pleasure
That it is shared
The life lives

I was drawn by your title: Empire of the Senses...the senses rule...people are annoyingly dependent on the senses for their security...sight, sound, touch/feeling...if Truth somehow doesn't worship at foot of this triune, forget it...what we see, our perception, and what we hear determines how we feel...it matters little what logical thought might expose...
Poetry being the delicate amalgamation of emotion and intellect, it is on the cutting edge of this dichotomy...emotion must be tempered with reason and intellect must be given life by passing through the poet's heart, soul and spirit...
Emotion and Intellect...seemingly opposite entities...the poet participates in this breathtaking dance of Life...
The Empire of the Senses and the Empire of the Intellect need each other in order to prevent "Self"destruction...
Thanks for the opportunity, the challenge to think and feel...
blessings,
