Crying

Contributed by jigsma on Sunday, 16th October 2005 @ 07:00:31 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

We begin our lives driven by instinct. Crying when we`re hungry.
We grow by living and learning. Crying when we skin our knees.
We learn by mistakes, practicing and lessons. Crying when we are punished.
We reach a time when decisions can be made. Crying if we cannot.

And then we think we`ve learned love. And cry if another is chosen.
And our hearts have learned aching. And we cry because it hurts.
Then we learn it can heal, and become solid again. And cry because it was silly.
And we think "it wasn`t so bad." And cry out "Ok world, I`m ready!"

We mature and grow, learning differences. Crying if they`re hard to bare.
We seek a moment of happiness. Crying if it slips through our fingers.
And we learn more and endure. Crying in silence, alone.
We finally lift our chins and smile. Crying out "Ok world, I`m ready!"

Then years and many lessons have passed. We`ve cried because of choices.
Then we`ve learned of the paths we`ve taken. And have cried for what we`ve chosen.
We begin to realize the options past. And cry for what wasn`t.
We`ve molded ourselves with expectations. And we cry because they`re not attained.

Our lives are an upstream rowing. And crying has been the river.
We`ve made our choices, we like to think. But cry for some lost hope.
But if the streams were forked enough, we would cry for direction.
And still we`d think the choice is ours. And we`d cry out "Ok world, I`m ready!"

Because we`ve learned and have grown. Crying has taught us.
We`ve gained wisdom and strength. And crying has kept us alive.
And we begin again, the upstream rowing. And will cry at each bump and wave.
But we understand the river we`re on. Because we know every tear that`s in it.

Love the way you just summed it all up in that last line! It's funny how our greatest weaknesses become our best strengths, isn't it?
This is a thought-provoking piece, with a pretty picture too: )
Keep it up!

Scorp.

Wow- beautifully sad. I just love the picture too. This put me on tear overload because I know a bit of your story. What a beautifully written poem from a beautiful person I wish I had known. There is another angel in heaven. This I know.
