Consuming Rage

Contributed by Nazmythian on Friday, 14th October 2005 @ 01:09:04 AM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

Anger explodes within the body
Erupting violently
As a closed fist descends
Rapidly through empty air

The blow is interrupted
By a table top
At fault only because
It happened to be there

Soft flesh connects
With a much harder surface
Where it suddenly begins
To give

Old breaks ache
From compression within the hand
Bones that had never truly healed
Separate yet again

Swelling starts immediately
The desk appears unmoved
And though it pains him to do so
The poet within him must capture the moment

He takes up his instrument
While words flow from the pen
Fluid as the welling tears
Within his piercing eyes

Letters, disfigured as his hands
Begin to dance across the page
Still, he can read them
He knows their true meaning

This pain is self-inflicted
By the light of its fire
He can see through the darkness
For that purpose it must be endured

So on he writes
Identifying what it is he feels
Through the mask
Of this physical discomfort

He can see himself
Dissect himself
Trace his path through this
His mental battlefield

And with his words
He can draw a map
Documenting the journey
As he swallows his emotions

Once again
Consuming rage

(Additional Author's Note: I took a trip awhile back, within my mind. I followed the procession of a particularly strong emotion, as I dealt with it through a series of four writes. I could not have written these words at that time. This then … would be the preamble to “Don’t Bother” ... and hopefully concludes my Rage Writes.)

Very compelling narrative of an emotion,
the rage is well conveyed and intriguing
in these intense and captivating verses.

Hmm some lessons here, don't hit the table too hard, it's plain stupidity.

It's quite sad that instead of 'letting heal', 'not bothering' and 'concluding' past pains, simple ways are found to keep the healing bones to crumble again and again, a bit masochistic of human nature don't you think?

Interesting write.

dearest nazzy~
even when you are struggling within, your immense talent never wavers
....thoroughly descriptive and unrestrained, this write, exquisitely penned,
leaves little room for imagination. It is, in all it's humbleness, quite brilliant.
I found this piece to be particularly arresting.
Diverse? Yes, your poetry is that and so much more !!

Every piece I read leaves me eagerly anticipating the next...

You have captured the essence of poetry. To analyze and catalogue and do it with words that will communicate the exact feeling to others....
Oh, and you have done it well.
