On January 11, 1997 God gave to me, a tiny piece of heaven. You were born on a cold winter day, I think it's time you knew how you got your name.
I had a friend in the army stationed in japan. I'd known him forever, he was a great man. It was Veterens Day, two months before you were born. He and two friends were on a cliff watching the ocean during a storm. The cliff that they were on was very very tall. As they turned to leave, he watched his best friend fall. He didn't hesitate, and he didn't go for help. He jumped into the ocean never thinking of himself. The storm was really bad and the waves were just too high. He managed to save his friend, but that night my friend died.
I was with his wife when she got the news. I got really sick, and I was pregnant with you. I hadn't picked your name, for you nothing seemed right. Until I went to sleep and had a dream of him that night. He said he had to go, he had a job to do, that God had chosen him to watch over you.
When it comes to you I have nothing to fear. No matter where you go I know that he is near. I know he had to die, that it was God's plan. To be your guardian angel he picked the perfect man. In loving memory of Olan Ashley Dick aka Odie

Awesome & beautiful. I loved it! What a great story and great write about a great man that I am sure watches over your new miracle of life. Well, she's eight now but still every birth is a miracle of life.
Thank you for sharing.
Take care,
Tim
