A Christmas Present

selfstruggles

A box lays beneath the tree, it has no name on it that i can see,
curious i gave it a shake, the sound was something a present could never make,
if you've heard a heart break, you know its a sound no ear should have to take,
frightened i opened it but could not look, I reached my hand in and shuddered as i shook,
withdrawing my hand as rigid as the holy book, blood flowing at the punishment it had just took,
wounded and angry I threw this most unpleasant present,
the contents escaped now and what my eyes saw was not heaven sent,
well maybe they were but before my memory, i hear they were perfect in the past,
broken ornaments representing promises and loves that could never last,
shattered or destroyed by the rough times over the years,
Battered and betrayed this box is soiled in so many tears,
Stuck in the before and what could've been, I now know why I am treated so obscene,
haunted by this most vivid dream, sometimes things aren't always as they seem,
Though my ghost is real I am sure of this, this present I am positive is his,
If your reading this then you know I am he, that present was for and is me.

That was good and I can definitely relate to the broken heart. I like the way you interpreted the broken heart into "broken ornaments representing promises and loves that could never last".
Good job, thanks for sharing.
