That I Might Stand

Contributed by Loende on Tuesday, 11th October 2005 @ 03:29:32 AM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

It amazes me still,
That I can call you Friend.
That no matter the weather of my soul,
You still hold my hand, my heart.

I wake each day, on legs less than steady,
And when I might fall, collapse,
You stand, hand raised, palm up,
And I am a leaf on the wind.

We fly, you and I, laughing and free.
Sometimes near, sometimes apart,
But fly we do, arms wide, sun kissing our skin,
No destination, just the journey in mind.

So I say to you, my Dear One, you give me wings
You, who know not what you do, or when,
I say to you, in the only language I can,
That because of you, I can soar.

That you might stand, you have angels, and that angels might be angels, they have you.
Better words would be hard to find, my friend.
Take care.

It seems many people forget about friends and do not appreciate them the way that they should. It's beautiful to read a poem about friendship in which you truly can tell one cares about their friends and just wish to keep them friends until the end of time.

A touching piece of work, it most assuredly is.

I especially like the latter two verses of the second stanza. Excellent.

May the sun shine on your road, mo chara.
