She said “You don’t know me”
He said “I’m not afraid to try”
She said “You can’t hold me”
He said “Can you tell me why?”
She said “You look to me
Like you might leave”
He said “Babe, looks
Sometimes deceive.
Gimme a chance and
You might be surprised”
He took her hand and fell
Into her life
She said “But you promised”
He said “I did no such thing”
She showed him her finger
He said “I don’t see no ring”
She said “I knew
From the very start
You’d be the next
To break my heart.”
He said “I never meant to
Cause you any pain”
He closed the door and fell
Into the rain
Leaving was the hardest thing
He’d ever had to do
He hoped someday
She could say
She understood the truth
It’s not easy being
So in love
With someone
They can't rise above
The image you have
Painted in your head
( At least that’s what he said )
He said “You don’t know me”
She said “I’m not afraid to try ...”

Most people are afraid to know themselves and so hardly know themselves, expecting to know someone else is a bit too much to ask. I guess they may be excused. |

I'm so glad I read this. You put into words something I've wanted to write for the past month or so, and still have yet to properly think of a way to do it. You handled the subject matter so well here, and this is something you should be proud to have written.
*Hopes self has seen a sufficient amount of layers in this one, which self thinks he has*
Excellent write |

Naz,
A very creative write; and as complicated as relationships are is reflected in the complexities of this poem. While there are many layers, there does appear to be an overall theme. That theme, I think, relates to how well do people really know each other. So we go by our perceptions of reality which may not be accurate - regarding the significant other or of ourselves. Yes, t he whole issue of transparency/openness.
Well done, my friend
