You gave me the freedom to be me.
From the moment I first crawled down from your knee.
I know I was a precocious child.
My teenage years a little wild.
And though I may have caused you grief.
You never wavered in your belief.
That I would somehow find my way.
That everything would turn out OK.
Now that I am fully grown.
I have two children of my own.
Now mothering is what I do.
I realise, Mum, what I put you through.
I realise now the depth of your love.
And I send a prayer of thanks up above.
For you are with the Angels now.
I'm regretful that I never figured out how.
To say what I felt while you were still living.
You taught me the value of true Christian giving.
You were my wisdom, my strength and my light.
You taught me the courage to stand up for what's right.
I'll always treasure the life lessons you taught.
Just as I'll cherish the wisdom they brought.
I thank you, Mum, from the bottom of my soul.
For teaching me how to be person whole.

"I'm not sure if she knew what she meant to me."
Mothers know lot more than we give them credit for. |
