God’s Little Angels – Zachary

Contributed by Darkhorse71 on Friday, 30th September 2005 @ 11:59:46 AM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

Eight years old and fading fast,
your family’s hearts are shattered;
but their spirits are going to last
because they know you need them.

Thanksgiving Day I got the call –
come here quick and help him breathe,
he doesn’t have very long at all
before God brings him home.

I walked in and saw you there
sitting on your fathers lap
rocking gently in his chair,
tears running down his cheeks.

I hurried up to do my job
to ease your pain and suffering,
conscious that I couldn’t rob
you of those precious moments.

All day we talked and sang and prayed
and held on to each other;
asking God for one more day
as you were handed to your mother.

I praised God for allowing you
to make it one more day.
Instead of a holiday tragedy
a gem of a memory now will stay.

Your mom and dad, they made a vow
and went to school for health care.
It’s your memory they honor now
as they give their hearts to share.

Thank you for allowing me into your life.
