My Words Unsaid

Contributed by wachumiri on Friday, 30th September 2005 @ 11:03:00 AM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

If words could cure the broken heart
If words could speak like waves
With all my soul I’d seek those words
I’d seek until my grave

But words are words, and nothing more
And words, my friend, won’t do
But maybe waves from distant shore
My friend I’ll bring to you

Listen to the ocean’s tears
Hear well its mournful cry
For I have told him of your fears
And now his eyes run dry

The wind, his friend, joins in this dirge
A heartfelt melody
For without words, this grieving song
Might set your spirit free

The sea sees every land on earth
It’s learned her every tongue
But for your song, no speech on earth
Nor language old nor young

So let me seek the angel’s speech
For perfect words to you
The words you see on every flower
Consumed by morning dew

To seraphim I tell your tale
I ask them what to do
I plead for words to ease distress
For words to comfort you

And angels weep, for they know not
The words I seek to say
And then I see before my eyes
The key for which I prayed

My friend, back to your side I come
And whisper in your ear
The only words I dare to say
Are written in my tears

You wrote this at such a perfect time for it to make me react in the way I did. There are a few angles from which to take the poem, but they all come to the same conclusion. I'm going through this right now in my life, and it just hit like a ton of bricks. That first stanza really grabbed me from the start, no doubt it stands with the last stanza as the best of the poem (in my opinion, though). Excellent delivery of your thoughts here.

David, this is a beautiful poem, I am thinking one of your best. You have a way with writing things for people you care about, and it is very touching. I like the references to seraphim in this poem, and the emphasis on prayer and empathy. God bless, my brother...

Sometimes, you just leave me breathless, unable to do anything but weep. This is one of those times. God bless you, David.

Wow. I have to say, this is probably the best friendship poem I've ever read. I loved this. Your feelings poured out into this write, and your deep affection for this lucky friend is evident. Fantastic imagery, and very well expressed. I hope you share this with her!

Rather good, no doubt about it. Sea-imagery suits you, and the seraphics are interesting as well.

Melikes. Nicely done.

This was absolutely beautiful. The flow was smooth and the sentiment was just fantastic! I'm not a critic (obviously) but you put to words a feeling that many of us have and can't express. Kudos to you!

OK. This is one of the best poems I have ever read. I love the way it flows, I love the imagery, I love the story of it, I love it all. I am particularly moved by your last verse. I know I will replay it over and over in my head for quite a while.

you convey, thru your poetry, a friend that one wishes one had had, or could have, or wish could miss

being able to work thru a torturous memory with nurturing words and peace of heart is a treasure that will put on a frown of confusion until it's understood that it is a gift of friendship

this is truely clear

I know that heartfelt thanks are the result of your thoughtful words....unsaid

I honestly can't believe I didn't comment here previously. I returned to this page just now, after re-reading your comment on my Recalling Silence and following the path to your page. The title drew me in (the obvious relativity of it)... and, once on the page, I remembered having read this piece when originally posted. I can only imagine that I intended to circle back later to leave a comment - but, unfortunately, must have gotten side tracked.

Em's right, David... your work is so very touching when you're writing for someone you care for. You shine here... and your words leave me both warm (for having felt the genuine concern here) and quite moved (for having witnessed your willingness to share your feelings). Lovely, lovely write!

I'm still kicking myself for not commenting on this sooner... but then, I'm not sure this poem needs a comment. It doesn't need words. Maybe all these comments spoil it, just a tiny bit.

Nevertheless, this is beautiful David. I echo Dawn, God bless you. Audri is truly lucky to have a friend like you, but then, we all are.

And as usual, your poetry leaves me speechless.

Lovely write, my friend.

*hugs*
