Per Aevum ~~ For Eternity

Topic:
Grief
|
A spark you were, ten years ago,
A blessing, even as you grew.
One gift I never thought to have,
My miracle come true.
I dreamed of what you'd grow to be,
Of all the things you'd do.
I wished to watch you everyday,
To hold and cherish you.
Then one bright day, my world collapsed,
The dream dissolved to grey.
Your spark extinguished in my womb,
His gift was torn away.
I think back now, to those long nights,
As grief ripped me apart,
Though I but held you a brief time,
You live on in my heart.

Very moving and touching work.
Must have been hard to write about what happened.
Sorry seems an empty word at times

A subdued but evocative poem. Well structured, evenly paced, although I'd drop 'even' from the 2nd line of the first stanza as it lengthens the metre.
I hope this doesn't sound too cold - your comments make it clear that you lost a child and I'm glad for you that some of the pain has eased. However, most of the other comments are going to be expressions of sympathy, and I don't think you are posting for that.

A bit odd, posting a comment on one's own work, but I feel I need to...
It's quite clear that this poem is about a loss that I experienced ten years ago. It's taken quite some time to come to the understanding that though I'll always carry the pain of her loss, I also have peace. This tribute is to celebrate an event that was very brief, but very important. Some of you have suffered similar loss and I urge you to explore your feelings, write, talk about it, because it does get esier to remember with joy. If this poem helps any of you, then I am truly blessed.
Thank you,
Loende |

*hugs*
No use trying to make you smile this time... oh, never mind, you did it again.
Take care.

this is encredibly heartbreaking and sings with a sense of longing... I am certain one day the longing will be reconciled in eternity :-) |

So freaking glad this turned out to be a tribute. I was afraid to comment on it at first because I did not wish to bring back that pain. But like "they" say, God does work in strange ways. I have a freaking wonderful daughter but she wasn't actually my wife's first pregnancy as she miscarried the first time. while that was upsetting and I wonder what that child would have been like but it pains me more to wonder what life would be like without my daughter.
However brief, I am glad this poem speaks of the beauty in your child.
Love you. Sadly beautiful.
