Our Pursuit

Lifepoems

In the pursuit for knowledge and power, virtuous,
we sometimes steer of in directions, unrighteous.
In all honesty, unadulterated and sane,
what we worked so hard for, now mundane.
The gifts unto us bestowed, entrusted for use, produce,
instead bringing about destruction, renowned,
the reaping of our sowing so profuse.
We disgrace our names, our mothers, our countries,
All for recognition and steadfast memories.
We are like troubled soldiers in the know,
burdened by the future, passed.
Fighting, fighting, we’re all fighting,
for that chance under the sun…

Sorry for the half note. Its supposed to read: "This poem contains samples from "Troubled Soldier", a song done composed and performed by Simpiwe Dana."
Thank you for reading my poem.
