Three little crabs lost on a beach. Each one was trying to reach the ocean. The first little crab was born in a puddle. His parents were born there too. So the first crab was convinced it was the ocean. What else could it be? It had enough water for him to swim in. He’s always been there, and he was happy. To him it was the ocean. The second little crab was born on the sand. He went searching for the ocean everywhere. He knew he couldn’t survive in the sun forever. It seemed hopeless until he stumbled upon the puddle. The first little crab said congratulations you’ve found the ocean. The second crab was skeptical. This is the ocean he questioned? I thought it was big and deep. The first crab said this is bigger than you isn’t it? And it’s deeper than where you’re standing. What else could it be but the ocean. This convinced the second crab that this was indeed the ocean. He was so happy that he could finally get off the hot sand and cool off from the scorching sun. To him this was the ocean. The third little crab was also born on the sand. He also searched for the ocean in the hot sun. He wasn’t sure how long he could survive. Then he stumbled upon the puddle. The two little crabs said congratulations you’ve found the ocean. The third crab didn’t believe them. This isn’t the ocean it’s a puddle. The ocean is vast. It has no beginning or end. It’s so deep you could swim forever down and never reach the bottom. The water is blue and it moves. The two little crabs in the puddle started laughing. To them the third little crab was just talking nonsense. It moves they said mockingly? It has no end? How can such a thing exist? If it’s so big why can’t you see it? Where else have you seen any water but here, and if you never seen it how can you know that this isn’t the ocean? Because I know that it’s a puddle, said the third little crab. The two little crabs laughed at the third crab as he started to walk away. They said you are going to be lost forever if you can’t accept that this is the ocean. Maybe said the third crab, but at least I know I’m lost.
