Rebuilding the Walls

In the shrouding of night,
Weeping silently,
I sit amongst a pile of debris,
Left from my hasty desire
To destroy the bulwark around my heart
It felt so right,
It felt so perfect.
But how quickly things have changed!
Now I must rebuild my fortress.
For the same way rain knocks at the joints of the elderly,
So does pain to my spirit.
But I will not hurt again.
Cloaked in darkness,
I will rebuild my wall.
And come dawn's first light
I will not ever have to feel
The impending darkness that I know
Is stalking my every move.
And brick by brick,
Taller my tower of protection becomes,
So nothing can get out,
But most imortantly,
Nothing can get in.
And the torture
That was attempted to be afflicted upon me
Cannot penetrate my shield of stone and clay.
And though you may one day reach for my heart,
Just remember where you left it:
Locked away, protected from pain,
And safe from sorrow.
But blame not yourself,
Blame me.
For I tore my own wall down!
It was done too quickly
With too much emotion,
And not any thought.
And as the sun pierces the nightime cloak,
A single ray illuminates
My newly formed wall
That reaches as high
And grand as a castle tower.
In the arms of safety,
Within my walls,
My heart resides
Safely, comfortably, eternally.

This was a very moving piece and your pain is evident, but there is also a certain wistfulness that it shouldn't have to be that way.
Within my walls,
My heart resides
Safely, comfortably, eternally.
You left out lonely. I hope you work through your pain and find happiness once again.
A very powerful write.
peace to your heart, john |

I agree.Humans,so scared of getting hurt and ...maybe loosing someone close to their heart-that very fear is often the cause of them loosing that special person,as they either "build walls" around their heart and become detached,or they hold on to tight.Very well discribed.Good write. |

Great job with this write. Very emotive...Hopefully one day someone will be able to scale that fortress of a wall, and when they do, you let them in: )
