To Get Rid Of That -Self Image

Contributed by inoc on Monday, 26th September 2005 @ 05:22:34 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Waking each morning the same old way.
I do the same things day after day.
I think no one will ever notice,
hey, that I am not really that wonderfully nice.
Before I walk out my door,
I put on shoes better than Mrs. Moore wore before.
I cover up my flaws,
yet inside I sharpen my claws!
It's like putting on that old favorite coat,
I can hide under it when I gloat.
Talking behind someone else's back,
I think no one will ever be able to track...
I gossip, and hold grudges I can't seem to help it.
I worry if my clothes or others- don't seem to fit,
I have to make myself someone fresh and new,
but my old self inside is ashamed and all blue.
I should not care what people say,
and place a blindfold and put earplugs in and say "Hey?"
Covering myself with makeup and gold,
to hide all the true self that layers me to be sold,
to others and the community I have to impress,
but really inside they would never guess.
I am not really the person that they actually see.
I am covered everyday with a false humanity.

Have a try for a day and find how hard it is to show your true self and get rid of that self image...it's sure hard!

Once upon a time I was truly like that. When I retired I discovered 'simple life'. It is so wonderful. Jeans, T-shirt, no makeup, rarely perfumed and will even go to town like that shopping. Three yrs ago I would never have thought to be see like that. Facades are your foe, for people should love the real you.
Great write.

Rita

I am trying to get rid of that self image, I too Rita have gone for the simple way, etc... no jewelry etc...trying "not" to be like many others....all for show and even if can't afford clothing go out and put it on credit...just because every other women is looking so -fashionable- I do not care what others think anymore...and I wrote this poem to make everyone think-- you do not have to follow this human desire of ours to naturally want more.....
....work on this inside where no one can see....but God...He is the one that counts...not humans...

coni[sorry for going on]... but wanted to point this out...

very nice poem here, lots of wisdom applies

am retired myself, do not have to dress up for the public, can dress in my jeans and top and toss up my hair, beat the sun, and my husband loves it we can get places on time, lol.

I love myself the way I am, always have, I have never been one to follow a trend. God gave me beauty within and that is what shines.

keep up this kind of writing, coni, it is needed.
